Newsletter The newsletter of the Ft. Myers Month Meeting informs us on news of the meeting, as well as providing spiritual nourishment. Friends are invited to send material to the newsletter editor for consideration regarding publication. The newsletter is sent out to Members, Attenders, and those who have signed our guestbook and indicated that they wish to receive the newsletter. Those who wish to preserve resources by reading the newsletter on this website may do so by notifying the newsletter production committee, who will be pleased to remove your name from the mailing list. You may also elect to receive the newsletter by email, in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format, which is viewable with a free Acrobat reader available from Adobe. To do so, notify the webmaster. The newsletter is published on this website in Adobe Acrobat format, because converting it from its native format to a web format doesn't work very well. The Adobe Acrobat format is free, and is available from Adobe here. It is likely that your computer already has it installed. But if you click on a newsletter and encounter a dialog asking you to pick the application in which to view the document, cancel that dialog, and install Acrobat. To view a newsletter, click on the links below. Not all links are active: those with underlines are available. The months are named in the traditional Quaker style: the early Quakers had a problem with the months being named after Roman gods. We continue to use this naming convention, within Quaker circles, as a way of reminding us of our roots: whether this is a particularly Quaker practice is a matter of enjoyable discernment within our meeting. Note that the newsletter is released about two weeks before the month for which it is labelled: it contains the minutes from the previous month's Meeting for Worship With a Concern for Business ("Business Meeting"), and the Queries for the month for which it is labelled.
(Note: until 4th Month 2006, the newsletter for a particular month carried the record of the Meeting for Worship with a Concern for Business of the preceding month. While this had the salutory effect of ensuring that a newsletter for a particular month arrived before that month, in the manner of magazines, it also had the unfortunate effective of terminally confusing those looking for the Business Meeting minutes for a particular month. Hence the change.) |
